Adoption Stories!

Bob (lab mix) and Lilly (boston terrier) are both KCHA alum. We adopted Bob in the spring of 2012, he was a stray who was in the shelter for a couple months. He is a super high energy but awesome dog. He has turned into a great running/training partner and and is most happy running trails deep in the woods. We adopted Lilly in May 2013, she is a 10 yr old Boston, who was an owner surrender. She is a perfect little dog, tons of energy and moved seamlessly into our home. Bob and Lilly are best friends and we are blessed to have them! - Brett (November 23, 2013)

"I adopted Kricket (pictures attached) in 2001 when I was 13 years old. I had saved up my allowance money and my mother took me to KCHA to adopt a dog. I looked into Kricket's eyes and knew she was the one. We adopted her and soon found out she was scared to death of men. My father thought we had adopted a "devil" dog because she acted as though she would eat him alive if he went near her. One day while giving her a bath I noticed round scars that had been covered by her fur. They looked like cigarette burns and that explained a lot. With patience and love she came to trust men and to love my father. She has been my best friend all these years and has helped me through so much. She and I have a very special bond and I am so thankful she came into my life all those years ago. I hope to share many more years with her by my side. I hope everyone can experience saving an animal and the joy that they will bring to your life." -Kristin (Novemeber 22, 2013)

I knew I wanted a small breed short-haired puppy and had been going to the shelter every day for two weeks straight last summer looking for one. When I walked in one day and saw a litter of 6 week old Boston terrier mix puppies, I knew one of them would be mine. Rosie was the smallest of the litter, but the first to greet me. As soon as I put her on my lap, she crawled up my chest and started licking my chin, her tail wagging furiously the whole time. I adopted her on the spot. Now, she is almost 6 months old and is unbelievably friendly, lively, playful, and cuddly, and her silly antics are always good for a laugh. We've been taking training classes together and she is so intelligent and loves everyone she meets, so I hope to have her certified as a therapy dog when she is all grown up. Rosie is the dog I always wanted and I can't wait to see what the future has in store for us as we go through life together!-Allison (November 21th, 2013)

"My boyfriend got me this cat that we named Tigger last year on Valentines Day from KCHA & he couldn't have gotten a better cat! We have grown so close to him and I personally do not know if I'd ever be able to do without him. He absolutely loves to play! Especially fetch. If we say "Tigg Hairbow" and wave it in the air he will get in charge mode to go get it. He is the best thing that has happened to us! I love you, Tigg!"

"Hello! Just thought I'd update you on Lexus. We have had her over a week now and she is doing great. Crate training wonderfully. She seems to be adjusting well and really acknowledges me as the pack leader. She's a really good dog." -Chris and Sharon (November 19th, 2013)

"The little guy is Sugar Bear aka shortie. He was adopted May 22 2013 from KCHA, our wedding anniversary. When I looked into shorties eyes he spoke to my heart. I took him for a walk at the shelter & knew he belonged with our family. He is a corgi/ dachsand mix, lil overweight, blind in one eye, & missing teeth but he is PERFECT to us :) He is thriving and enjoying his senior years in our home in Cross Lanes with his 3 human brothers & his five feline & canine bros & sisters. Thank u KCHA for all that u do." -April (October 19th, 2013)
